Cruise Recap: Disney Fantasy

This time last week, Tony and I were exploring the Caribbean Seas on the Disney Fantasy cruise ship. We were celebrating our two-year wedding anniversary. (But, really, who are we fooling? We just needed a good excuse to book a 7-night Disney cruise).

The trip was magical (#disneyside)! I spent half of my time trying to sell the Disney Vacation Club to Tony. I have serious Disney problems and no shame about it – none, zero, zilch. Thankfully, Disney isn’t a hard sell and I think we might (fingers crossed) drink more of the kool-aid (We are already APs – Disney code for Annual Passholders) and join the cult, officially. I’ll keep ya posted.

When I wasn’t harassing DVC (Disney code for Disney Vacation Club) CM’s (Disney code for Cast Members), I made myself at home in the following areas:

  1. Senses Spa
  2. Adult pool (18 and up)
  3. Walt Disney Theatre
  4. Dining rooms (Animators Palate, Enchanted Garden, The Royal Court, Palo)
  5. Exploring the ports

SPA

You don’t have to spend a lot of time on this blog to figure out that I have an unhealthy relationship with spas. I am addicted to blow-outs, massages, pedicures and manicures << in that order. The first thing I did when I boarded the ship was locate the Senses spa and book services.

ADULT POOL

Disney loves kids, but they respect adults (they know who pays the bills). They offer adult only areas on the ship which are serene and quiet. If you are into loud party music and day drinking, I’d recommend a different cruise line. For us, the adult only pool (smoke-free!) was romantic and peaceful.

THEATRE

Nothing compares to live Disney performances. Nothing. During our 7-night stay we were able to see 5 Disney originals: A Fantasy Come True, Aladdin, Disney Wishes, Disney’s Believe, An Unforgettable Journey. My personal favorite is Disney’s Believe. I’ve seen it twice now and I could watch it a hundred more times.

DINING ROOMS

Impeccable service and care – truly unbelievable. I felt like a spoiled celebrity. We had the same server every night (with the exception of Friday night because we ate at Palo – a fine dining upgrade option offering a little more embellishment). I requested dairy-free meals on day one. Every single night, the chef prepared anything I wanted from the menu without dairy! I can’t express how above and beyond the CM’s went to manage my dietary needs while serving exciting meals and desserts! They even served me vegan butter! Seriously, Disney handles food allergies better than anyone in the industry … they set the bar.

Obviously, I took a million food pics. It’s what I do, I can’t control myself. Here is a collage of some of the dairy-free(!!!) highlights:

PORTS

• Cozumel, Mexico

cozumel

This was our second trip to Cozumel. Both times we enjoyed a DIY excursion. We rented a scooter and rode to Paradise Beach. It’s simple, easy and affordable.

• Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands

tiki

This was our first trip to Grand Cayman. We bought a Tiki Beach excursion last minute. To be honest, we were not fans and do not recommend Tiki Beach. I’m not one to complain, so I will leave it at that!

• Falmouth, Jamaica

dunnrivers

We took a suggestion from a friend (thanks, Greg!) and booked the Dunn River Falls excursion. BEAUTIFUL!  One look at the falls and it takes your breath away. It was nice to explore nature beyond the shorelines. Jamaica is a lush, exotic and mountainous island. I would love to go back for a longer stay.

• Castaway Cay, Bahamas

castaway

Disney’s own private island in the Caribbean. The best thing about Castaway Cay is it’s reserved for Disney cruisers! We were the only ship docked and had access to “free” chairs, umbrellas, lunch and a 5k! Tony and I took advantage of the “free” 5k and completed our first Disney run.
